York Opera

Our history

York Opera was formed in 1966 under the name of City Opera Group, York. From our debut performance Operettas Are Fun
in 1967 to our 50th anniversary performance of Turandot and beyond, we pride ourselves on our all-inclusive approach -
if you have the enthusiasm, we want you to perform with us, no matter how little experience you have of opera!

Year on year we produce shows that are musically and dramatically excellent, and we’ve performed with many outstanding
individuals over the years. Our cast is always supported by vibrant set and costume, which we’ve designed and constructed within
the company since day one.
