Passion, jealousy and fate collide in Georges Bizet’s electrifying opera brought to the stage by York Opera under the musical direction of Ed Venn and the direction of Chris Charlton-Matthews.

Set against the vibrant streets and sun-drenched squares of Seville, the story follows Carmen, a fiercely independent woman who refuses to be controlled by love. When she captures the heart of soldier Don Jose his devotion soon turns to obsession, with devastating consequences. As Carmen fights to preserve her freedom, Don José struggles to accept that he cannot possess her.
