Get involved: Mhairi Lawson Masterclass
Following the success of our previous events, York Opera is proud to present a masterclass with the renowned Scottish soprano, Mhairi Lawson. Mhairi has worked worldwide with companies such as English National Opera, New York City Opera and The Early Opera Company in works by composers from Monteverdi to Puccini. She has sung as soloist with the Halle Orchestra, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, The Northern Sinfonia, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and period instrument ensembles Les Arts Florissants, the Academy of Ancient Music, The English Concert and the Dunedin Consort.
Her discography ranges from Haydn’s Creation (Oxford Philharmonic), Scottish Songs and Canzonettas (with Olga Tverskaya), Schubert’s Lieder (with Eugene Asti) and works by Vivaldi (La Serenissima) to traditional classical Scottish music (Concerto Caledonia). Mhairi sings on the award-winning recordings of Purcell’s King Arthur and The Fairy Queen, with the Gabrieli Consort and Players.
Join us on Sunday 21st September at Askham Bryan Village Hall, where Mhairi will provide expert guidance on singing and performance. Running from 2.00-4.00pm and 5.00-7.00pm, enjoy as much or as little of the sessions as you like.
Featuring seasoned York Opera principals from recent productions and first-time soloists, this is a rare opportunity to witness and support incredible local talent.
Whether you're an opera aficionado or simply curious, this event offers an inspiring and intimate afternoon of music and learning.
